About the Brand

Elegant, modern and sustainable, Whimsy + Row is a lifestyle brand founded in LA by Rachel Temko. They produce sustainable fashion that is locally handmade and limited in order to keep up with an ethical production and maintain a low carbon footprint. Products are made of upcycled and local sourced materials, as well as eco-friendly fabrics such as Certified Organic Cotton, Linen and TENCEL™.

On their mission to be zero waste, they try to recycle every single scrap and they collaborate with Marimole, a textile recycling company based in NYC. In addition, they’ve also teamed up with different companies —like NoIssue and EcoEnclose— to keep their packaging practices as sustainable as possible. The team also gives back by donating to organizations such as One Tree Planted, Global Fund for Women, Black Lives Matter, Reclaim the Block, Black Vision Collective, Downtown Women’s Health Center and Feeding America.

Sustainability Practices

People
Are they Local: Yes, made in LA
Are they Fair Trade or Paid a living Wage: Yes, living wage.

Materials
Organic Materials: Yes, We choose low impact fabrics like Certified Organic Cotton, Linen, TENCEL™, Cupro, Silk and Deadstock/Upcycled Fabric. They use less energy, biodegrade faster than synthetic fabrics and use substantially less water to create.
Circularity: Absolutely! We use deadstock/ up-cycled materials. We also recycle every scrap of material in our production process. If we don’t have enough to make an entire piece of clothing, we gather the scraps and turn them into cute things like our bandanas and scrunchies. When all else fails, we hand them off to Marimole, a textile recycling company based in NYC. Their team takes our little pieces of fabrics and turns them into new fibers for new garments, wipes or insulation!
Cruelty Free: YES
Vegan: YES

Manufacturing
Environmental Conscious Processing: Reduced amount of Water, Waste, Carbon and Pollution: You can wear Whimsy with pride as our pieces are only made using recycled water. By refusing to use new water to create our garments, we leave more water for humans, plants, and animals. So far we have saved over 926k days of water! We think our planet should stay hydrated too. At Whimsy + Row, we cut out that nonsense by personally picking up each piece from the nearby factory when it’s finished. We kick even more plastic to the curb by packing our goods in reusable containers or carrying each style on hangers to deliver them to our warehouse for customer shipping. When we dye our clothing we only use low-impact dyes to protect our customers from the 8,000 synthetic chemicals that are usually in our garments. Low-impact dyes are highly absorbent, use less water and provide a vibrant consistent color that lasts.
